This is a way to fix the irregularities that appear in the textures in computer games. There are several methods of smoothing, which have their strengths and weaknesses.
In the settings of any game, there are graphics settings in which you can find anti-aliasing. You can also enable these settings in your graphics card settings, for example, in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
All the image that we see on the screen is created with pixels. Each of them transmits light to the screen, which has a color. It’s easier to create horizontal and vertical images because square pixels are perfectly aligned. It is much more difficult to create diagonal and curved lines. Many gamers could observe the “staircase effect” on textures of characters or other objects in the game world. At high resolution, these irregularities are less visible because there are enough pixels to make the jagged lines less visible.

Multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA)
This method requires a little less computational power, but it is not effective because it does not process the entire texture, but only its edges. In the end, the image will be softer along the edges, but the gamer can still get a pixeled image.
CSAA and EQAA
These two methods were developed by NVIDIA and AMD. They work in approximately the same way and their essence is that they replace individual parts of the image. They are excellent tools because they put a little load on computational power, as they do not soften the whole image.
This method eliminates the sharp contrast between the aligned pixels that cause irregularities. The main disadvantage is that the resulting image can be blurred. This will be very noticeable in games with high details and dynamic lighting.
On the other hand, the strength is that it works very fast and loads the processor much less than the spatial method.
MLAA and FXAA
The most popular smoothing methods in the game world. Many gamers appreciate these methods for the fact that they can make the image much better at low power. Graphics can be a little blurry, but many people think that this is a small price to pay for a clearer image.
This method is more efficient than the previous two but requires much more computer power. It uses blur to create a beautiful and graceful movement in the game. Because of this, the graphics may seem overly soft.
Enhanced subpixel morphological anti-aliasing (SMAA)
The most popular and favorite way for gamers to smoothen. It combines two main methods at once and sharpens the entire image. Using it, you’ll get images like in FXAA/MLAA or even better at low computational load.
So, what is the best anti-aliasing type for your PC?
The choice of the smoothing method is based on your equipment and preferences in the image. If your PC doesn’t have powerful CPU and GPU, SMAA and CSAA will be the best choice for you. These methods don`t require too much computing power, so they will be optimal for you.
SMAA, MLAA or FXAA, MSAA will be good for moderately CPU and GPU. In this case, you will need to make some tests and choose the best method, especially for your case. If you can launch MSAA at a good speed, so let it be.
If you have a powerful PC and good equipment, then choose SSAA, TXAAA, MSAA. MSSA should run without problems. Try the maximum values and run tests with different settings. There is little difference between 4x and 8x parameters.
