What is FreeSync?
FreeSync is an AMD technology that offers users a dynamic screen refresh rate. It uses DisplayPort™ Adaptive-Sync. The graphics card frame rate is synchronized with the screen refresh rate using FreeSync technology. This will correct bugs related to graphic artifacts, remove image delay, breaks, and interruptions during the game. The technology works with DisplayPort and HDMI support.

The main function of the technology is to provide gameplay without interruptions. AMD FreeSync Premium has several advantages. This technology allows you to compensate for the low frame rate (LFC) and refresh rate of 120 Hz in Full HD. LFC repeats frames several times when the game’s frame rate falls below the minimum supported screen refresh rate. At the same time, the game remains smooth, and the supported screen refresh rate.
As the gaming industry grows, so the demand for higher image quality also grows. The monitors check the exact brightness setting and improve the color quality with AMD FreeSync technology. As a result, we see a great level of image quality in games.
Where can you use FreeSync technology?

All Radeon RX 200 series cards and all-new Radeon graphics cards with GCN 2.0 architecture are compatible with FreeSync technology. The NVIDIA 10 series and higher cards are likely to have DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync technology, but you should check it out on the manufacturer’s website.

What is the low frame rate compensation?
With LFC, FreeSync displays can operate at frame rates lower than the minimum screen refresh rate. In this case, the frames are duplicated and displayed on the screen several times, which results in synchronization with the screen refresh rate. In fact, LFC removes the minimum screen rate limitation.
How to enable FreeSync?
When you connect your computer to a FreeSync enabled monitor, download the latest driver from the AMD website. Be sure to check compliance with your Windows version. You can find it manually or use auto-detection.
When this is done, run AMD Radeon Settings. In the Display section, you will find Radeon FreeSync. Depending on the monitor, you will need to enable the technology in the monitor settings.
Some displays work in a given range, so use the frame rate limitation in the game settings so as not to go out of the specified range.
What is FreeSync 2?
Monitors from higher price range are also compatible with FreeSync 2 technology. This is an advanced version of the solution described above that offers additional features such as HDR (High Dynamic Range) support, compensation for a small number of frames per second, or less delay in the displayed graphics.
Of course, to take advantage of these new features, you need to buy a monitor that is compatible with FreeSync 2. This marking on the box means that the screen supports HDR technology. Otherwise, you will not be able to use FreeSync 2.
Especially interesting is the compensation feature for a small number of frames per second. Thanks to this solution, the image will be smooth and will not be cropped even outside the FreeSync frequency range (by default it is limited and works, for example, with an update rate from 48 to 144 Hz). Therefore, if our video card generates fewer frames per second than the minimum monitor performance (e.g. 15 frames per second), you can still use FreeSync because the same frame will be displayed several times.
Progress in technologies does not stand, and consequently, borders between game and office or multimedia monitors are gradually erased. The quality of TN displays is increasing, and IPS are becoming faster, so both types of matrixes can be used in gaming devices. The development of OLED screens (which, in theory, have no inertia at all and have zero response delay) may displace LCD panels soon. High frequency and response rates are increasingly found in devices that do not have a pronounced gamer orientation.
Only G-Sync or FreeSync support and a distinctive appearance remain the main criteria for unmistakably distinguishing a gaming monitor. Therefore, when choosing a display for games, you should pay attention to these points because with the AMD Radeon video card, there is no sense in G-Sync support, and FreeSync technology is useless for the owners of NVIDIA graphics accelerations.
