Analytical agency App Annie reported total revenue of mobile games in the App Store, Google Play, and third-party stores for 2020 was $143 billion, which is 20% more than in 2019.
Casual games accounted for 23% of total mobile game revenue in 2020. At the same time, they accounted for 78% of downloads.
Two-thirds of the mobile gaming industry’s revenue in 2020 came from hardcore gamers. Analysts referred the fans of PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, and other titles, which are not characterized by casual gameplay. However, the share of downloads is significantly lower – 20% of the total number.
The third category of research was casinos, with 2% of users downloading them in 2020. At the same time, the income of such applications amounted to 11% of the total revenue of mobile games. According to App Annie, PUBG Mobile showed the best monthly online. The leader in downloads was another “battle royale” – Garena Free Fire (according to other information, the most downloaded game was Among Us). MOBA Honor of Kings (aka Arena of Valor) took first place in terms of revenue.
